Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Transport materials to and from all departments for supporting the converting department.
  • Loading and/or remove rolls from various bag machines within the converting department.
  • Follow the production schedule for all machines in the converting department, ensuring the required materials are available for use in at the appropriate time.
  • Plug in roll carts when they are not in use.
  • Having the next roll ready and on the roll cart for the next order.
  • Communicate with operators if unsure about orders.
  • Shaft rolls accurately with the help of a tape measure; properly use air shafts or manual locking chocks.
  • Load machines safely to eliminate downtime for Converting Machine Operators; assist with moving finished skids.
  • Emptying Garbage for Converting Machine Operators.
  • Retrieving bundles of boxes for Converting operators.
  • Removal of full gaylords of scrap boxes ensuring the materials in the box match the scrap; load scrap materials into designated trucks for recycling; build new gaylord for scrap boxes and correctly attach new skid tags.
  • Correctly weigh full and empty scrap gaylords.
  • Empty cardboard scrap from the converting department.
  • Assist with loading and unloading shipments in the Shipping Department.
  • Ensure truck drivers have chocked wheels before entering the truck.
  • Confirm that product quantities are accurate from the bill of lading and ensure there are no damages.
  • Confirm that the trucks are following our HACCP, IFS PacSecure programs prior to removing anything off the trucks.
  • Properly wrap finished goods from all departments with the skid wrapper along with making sure rolls are attached to skids; ensure U.S. shipments have cardboard corners installed correctly.
  • Take WIP material to and from Press, Laminator and Slitting Departments; ensure the proper scanning of WIP materials into racks.
  • Correctly use Tori WIP sheets for locating the material; physically track down material that has NO location.
  • Effectively organize the converting area for WIP material.
  • Hang laminated rolls for proper curing of glue; change glue totes for Laminator Operators.
  • Removal of snow in winter months by shoveling assigned walkways and stairs.
  • Proper and safe handling of propane tanks on forklifts.
  • Proper and safe handling of battery on electric forklifts when changing or charging the battery.
  • Bring supplies to CSR’s as requested.
  • Keep holding area for converting stocked for Material Handler use.
  • Wrap and count empty zipper spools for the recycling program.
  • Set up and remove various unwind stands for the converting department.
  • Correctly fill out work orders and corrective actions when equipment needs to be fixed and give to the Converting Supervisor / Manager.
  • Ensure skids are palletized correctly following the Secure Load policy.
  • Wrap End Board skids securely for recycling back to the customer.
  • Reporting all damages to the Converting supervisor / Manager.
  • Remove full waste drums from the printing department and transport to the assigned storage area in the shipping department; take new empty waste drums to the printing department.
  • Bring full yellow roll chock bins to the extrusion department to replace empty bins.
  • Keeping converting floor neat and free of debris minimizing the amount of WIP material being stored on the floor.
  • Help other departments as needed.
  • Any other duties as requested by the Converting Manager.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs repetitively.
  • Strong organizational skills and able to multi-task extensively.

Hours of Work:
Day Shift – : 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM,
After noon shift : 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM,
Midnight shift : 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM

  • Complies with the Occupational Health and Safety Act legislation and regulations and ensures safe working conditions are in place.

Job Duties:

  • Reads and comprehends the schedule daily and verifies with the docket for the accuracy of order specifications.
  • Collects all the necessary tools and accessories needed for the order, sets-up the equipment and is prepared for the operation.
  • Verifies and ensures that the proper films are on the machines as per the schedule and docket prior to setup.
  • Adheres to the personal protective equipment requirements of the plant.
  • Performs optimal setups to provide highest quality output while ensuring the maximum efficiencies of equipment.
  • Coordinates with the manager, supervisor and scheduler to organize workflow according to priorities.
  • Reads process control and verifies whether it’s the correct one for the order; if there is no process control available, gets one made.
  • Sets up machine as per process control and fine tunes machine so it is running at maximum output without jeopardizing quality or output.
  • Communicates with operators about issues, things they fix and problems with machines and works with them as a team to maintain good quality and efficiency.
  • Checks all running machines for proper setups by controlling and adjusting machine settings in accordance with process controls.
  • Monitors lines to ensure packaging lines and equipment are functioning normally and makes necessary adjustments as may be required to keep the lines running.

  • Checks quarantine daily to see if any rework needs to be done. If so, directs the proper employees to get task done.
  • Identifies when a machine need repaired (not performing to OEM standards) and writes a work order.
  • Troubleshoots issues on machines and performs repairs if it is a minor maintenance issue; reviews the steps of Level 1 Converting Set Up Operators are unable to determine the issue with the machine.
  • Strictly adheres to the company policies and procedures.
  • Works closely with the manager on further resource allocation and capacity planning including identifying Converting Operators’ strengths and performance gaps in specific operations.
  • Assists with training needs analysis for Converting Operators; assists with training the Level 1 Converting Set Up Operators.
  • Actively is involved in health and safety and food safety investigations for the department.
  • Conducts staff training on how to safely use machinery and educates on how to follow procedures, machine checklist, functions, quality expectations, etc.
  • Takes part in staff performance review processes and provides constructive comments.

Requirements (Job Specification):

  • 3-5 years of proven experience as a Setup Operator or similar role in a flexographic converting environment including mastery of troubleshooting various types of machinery and tools.
  • Intermediate mechanical and electrical knowledge.
  • Takes initiative and has an inclination towards innovativeness.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of flexible packaging and strong understanding of the production processes.
  • High School Diploma and a certificate or diploma in production management or a relevant field would be an asset.
  • Knowledge of the Ontario Health and Safety Act.
  • Good understanding of GMP.

Job Summary

Maintenance Technicians have several categories of responsibilities within the facility. As a Maintenance Technician will have individualized skills accompanying their generalized skills, each Mechanic will be assigned to duties matched with their skillset.

  • Check aniloxes in the press to ensure color standards are met and get any aniloxes that need to be changed.
  • Arrange sleeves on the cart to correspond with where they will go in the press; align the aniloxes and carriers in a similar fashion.
  • Place inks in front of the pumps they will need to be connected to (where the open inks are connected).
  • Upon completion of a job, speedy clean units that need a color change; place the pump in the empty can while washing up.
  • Open caps to change the sleeves after racking out the units; as sleeves, aniloxes and inks are changed ensure blades are closed before pumping in new inks.
  • Put drain hose into an empty pail while ink pumping to drain old solvent and ink out of the pump; turn aniloxe on and replace hose into ink to begin pumping process; ensure the film is spliced up and attached appropriately.
  • Clean aniloxe rollers that come out of the press once the calibration is complete.
  • Clean ink splashes on sleeve end, return to rack and get the next sleeves and inks.

Requirements (Job Specification):

  • Grade 12 education or equivalent preferred.
  • Ability to lift over 50lbs on a frequent basis.
  • Basic mechanical skills.
  • Basic knowledge of math and units of measurement.
  • Proficient in the English language.
  • Superior time management skills and excellent organization skills.

  • Experience in the flexographic printing industry would be an asset.
  • Basic mechanical skills.
  • Basic knowledge of math and units of measurement.
  • Proficient in the English language.
  • Superior time management skills and excellent organization skills.
  • Safety conscious with the ability to wear the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
